SMAPE  News  Nokia has purchased Trolltech

The Finnish Nokia company has completed the purchase of the Norwegian software firm Trolltech. The company provide for application development platforms and frameworks as well as offer consulting services. The prime product is Qt, a multi-platform C++ graphical framework.

The Nokia company plan to fully continue the development of all the products of the Trolltech company and promote current projects. The licensing policy will be maintained. Nokia haven’t yet determined the degree of the Trolltech’s autonomy as a unit of the Finnish giant. They have just mentioned the intention to use the TrollTech’s resources “to accelerate the Nokia’s software strategy for mobile devices and desktop applications, and develop our Internet services business.” As reported earlier, Nokia are developing a series of new Linux-based devices. It remains undisguised whether the TrollTech’s resources will be involved in the project.

Trolltech was estimated $150 million and the income for the first quarter of 2008 made up $11 million, the annual growth index being 15.5%. For comparison, Sun Microsystems acquired MySQL AB for $1 billion.
